The Orienteering USA Navigation Certification Program was designed and implemented for the express purpose of involving Orienteering USA Certified Coaches by getting them to see the results of coaching those orienteers trying to improve their skills.
The initial program is designed with Juniors in mind. It can provide goals toward personal development, offering different certification levels depending on orienteering speed and course difficulty. The orienteer will need to finish a certified 'A'-level classic-length course (see Orienteering USA Rules: B.24.) with no assistance at an Orienteering USA 'A' or 'B' meet and his/her average minutes/kilometer should be faster than:
Navigation Certificates may be requested for qualified athletes by their coach or any other individual who submits a request form and supporting documents to a certified coach willing to participate in this certification program. There is a small fee to cover certificate production.
See frequently asked questions about navigation certification.
We also anticipate this program will satisfy the needs of adventure racers who require navigation certification for team members.
