CoNav
Please share a link to this event with your friends and family - everyone is welcome! Please contact me directly to discuss special arrangements for scouts, school, J/ROTC, youth, corporate, wedding parties, and other groups.
This is a low-key, low-stress, self-guided opportunity to learn and practice basic orienteering skills. It is designed for beginning and intermediate orienteers, but participants of all levels are welcome. There will be no timing or scoring provided.
HQ area: Campground. Park in the gravel area near the Visitor Center. Parking on the roadside, in parking spaces on paved areas intended for Visitor Center users, and other areas is prohibited.
First starts at 10am, courses close at 2pm. I have a nice program set up for your, and you can do basically anything you want during this window within our permit, the law, and good manners.
As a with all CoNav events, advance registration is required via EventReg separately for each and every participant, regardless of age or relationship.
There will be three courses within this event. Controls will be shared between courses. Select which courses you want to do, and if you want printed instructions, during registration. Suggested sequence:
1) A map-only, no compass course to help you focus on relating what's on the map to what you see around you and orienting your map accordingly
2) An intensive compass-and-pace counting exercise to get you very comfortable with precision compass work.
3) An Orange (intermediate) course so that you can put it all together!
Please ensure that a separate registration (waiver and payment) has been completed for every single person in your group, regardless of age, relationship, etc. Re-use/sharing of the map and/or walking any part of a course by unregistered persons is not permitted.
$20 Regular reg thru 29Mar at 20:00,
$25 Late reg thereafter.
UPDATED FEE SCHEDULE FOR UNDER 12's:
Preregistered children 12 and younger accompanied by their fully registered parent/legal guardian are FREE! Children 12 and younger registering after regular reg closes are $10. As before, children 12 and younger not accompanied by their fully registered parent/legal guardian are charged the adult rate.
N.b: Park admission ($11/vehicle) is not included.
**You must select the appropriate "package" for the fee to be calculated correctly. Please do not select "Continue Without Package."***
Select "Competing/Participating," for each "Race" (course map) you wish to go out on. This event is designed for fun, learning, and practice, so please don't be fazed by the use of the word "Race."
Puppies LOVE to take their people orienteering! Dogs are welcome at this event, but handling a map, a compass and a puppy can become challenging, I am told. Leash and pick-up rules apply.
Rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the event may be canceled at the Registrar's discretion (in which case 100% refunds will be issued).
100% refund if you notify me by email (conavgames at gmail dot com) that you will not be attending no later than 8pm the night before the event.
BYO water, snacks. Free loaner compasses will be available, just ask for one when you check-in.
I hope you'll be able to attend!
