BFLO

2024 Cherry Blossom Challenge
Join us on Saturday, April 27 for this casual and fun celebration of spring in conjunction with the Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival. This event is designed for all experience levels and for walkers, runners, and family groups. Use the map (which we provide) to navigate a 3.7 kilometer (2.3 mile) point to point course which traverses the Hoyt and Mirror Lake parts of Delaware Park. The course features easy to locate checkpoints. Alternately, select a “Score-O” version in which you choose which points you want to visit. The time limit for the Score-O is 60 minutes. Online pre-registration is strongly encouraged and is the only way to guarantee we will have a map for you. (We will also print a few maps for “day-of” registrations.) The registration deadline is Thursday, April 25 at 11:00 PM. All individuals and groups are welcome. Everyone who attends must be registered, sign the waiver and pay the appropriate fee. The fee to participate is $5 for members of any orienteering club or $10 for non-members. Juniors (20 and under) who are part of a BFLO family membership, participate for free, otherwise $5. Children (11 and under) participate for free but must be registered by their parent. Check-in on April 27 is from 11:00-11:30 AM. The check-in will be located on the northeast portico lawn next to the Buffalo History Museum on the lake side of the building. The start will be located nearby. Participants may start at any time after checking in up until 12 Noon. If this is your first time orienteering and you would like an experienced orienteer to give you some tips before you start, there is a place to indicate that during the online registration process. Please contact the Event Director (David Cady, davidcady@gmail.com, 716-837-3737) if either of the following apply: 1. You have any questions whatsoever about the event. 2. You are participating in a group which is larger than 4 people.

2024 CNYO Rogaine - July 6-7 2024

CNYO

2024 CNYO Rogaine
CNYO's Annual Summer Rogaine Score Format. —teams of two to five people have a fixed time (6, 12, or 24 hours in this event) to visit as many checkpoints as possible, walking, running or resting as they see fit (solo entries will be allowed in the 6-hour event this year, but not in the longer 12 or 24 hour competitions). The checkpoints (controls) are spread over a large area, and are pre-marked on a map issued shortly before the start of the event. Point values for visiting each control vary (and are specified in advance) depending on such factors as the distance from the start/finish area, elevation, navigational complexity, and the whims of the course setter. The members of the team must stay together throughout the event, for reasons of safety. A primitive camping area in Hammond Hill State Forest will be the meet HQ, GPS Coordinates are N 42.438087 W -76.306042. IF your GPS suggests a route that doesn’t involve passing through the intersection of Irish Settlement Rd. and Hammond Hill Rd, that would be making a mistake to follow it, since some of the options would involve more than just a moderate clearance for a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Drinking water and portable toilets will be available during event. Free overnight camping is available Friday and Saturday nights. Bring tents, sleeping bags, etc. Camping involves a walk of about 100-200 meters from the road—access to the camping area is gated. You will need to carry your gear from your car. Number of campers may be limited to 40 people. We will keep track of placings in all of the the usual IRF rogaine categories (Men, Women, Mixed, in each of the various age subcategories of Junior (all under 23), Open, Veterans (all over 40), Super Veterans (all over 55), Ultra Veterans (all over 65)), as well as the overall placing, in the printed results of the event. SOLO orienteers (6 Hour Only) please indicate by selecting Team Solo. We may possibly provide some sort of physical award for some of the placements in at least some of these categories! Please mention your teams class in the comments of the online registration form. More information is on the club Rogaine event page. We hope to see you in the woods!
